Iron Trivia – Cap Railing

When working with iron, often other materials are used to accentuate, offset, highlight and even decorate the finished product. This specific job had 2 separate landing and set of stairs to each, using ornate iron designs! However, which just a touch of wood it really stands out and looks great! The wood cap rail is the railing that a persons touches as they go up or down the stairs!
Iron Trivia Question : Why is the handrail called a cap?
Answer : It is called a cap like the cap on ones head. Railing caps give a railing a finished look, and also provide a secure safe fixture to hold while going up/down. The railing cap is highly visible, perhaps more than any other part of the stairs, so using attractive lumber and with extra care we make functional and beautiful.
